School Profile

Small Hands Academy was founded in April 1996 to offer warm, homely nursery, pre-school and kindergarten classes to children from ages two to six years, to serve children from many different countries and language backgrounds.

There are 3 Small Hands campuses, two of them on the European side, one of them on the Asian side, plus our Utopya Primary School with a kindergarten also on the Asia side, all of which are conveniently located in beautiful surroundings with large secure gardens:

Small Hands Etiler (European Side of Istanbul)
Small Hands Rumelihisari (European Side of Istanbul)
Small Hands Selamiçesme (Asian Side of Istanbul)
Çekmeköy Utopya Primary and Kindergarten (Asian Side of Istanbul)

English, Turkish, German, French, and Japanese classes are available. Please check with the campus for confirmation on which languages are available.

Full and part time attendance options are available, and for very young children who still need a nap in the afternoon we accept on a part time basis only.

Children in nappies are very welcome.

Teachers who work at International Small Hands Academy have loving and caring personalities, are highly qualified and experienced, and are active, professional members of our team.

The main teacher child ratio is:

1:5 for 2 - 2.5 years
1:10 for 2.5 - 4.5 years
1:12 for 4.5 - 6 years

There are large classrooms with plenty of toys, books and play equipment for the children to use including sand, water, play dough and paints which are readily available.

Each child receives warm and individual attention by our teachers, which is so important in a young child's life, since it is often his/her first experience alone with an adult outside of their usual circle of family and friends.

Our teachers create classroom environments to help children express themselves to build their self confidence and independence and they promote human values & equal opportunities at all times as well as being positive role models.

Our teachers know that:
"Each day will be important to a child's development. Each child can only live this day once." (Alice Hanig/Froebel College - England)

As Shirley Maxwell (Froebel College - England) mentioned in The High Quality Early Childhood Education Congress which was organized by us in May 2002,' our teachers plan each day to be the very best it can be for the children in our care...’
